The new-ish thing to do these days is go on a Babymoon – a
getaway before you have a baby and life changes. Since Colin and I travel a lot, we knew we
wanted to plan a special “babymoon” getaway.
I wanted to go before I got too big and uncomfortable, and
the weather in February is less than ideal in many parts of the world, so we
quickly narrowed down our choices. We
went with a laid back trip focused on some good food and fun culture. We chose Mobile, Alabama because of its laid
back Southern charm, and found the perfect hotel that was downtown and in the
midst of all the cute shops and had a WONDERFUL spa that offered prenatal
massages! YES!
Just as we arrived into town, the Mardi Gras parade was
starting! (You may think this is strange…and
so did we, but evidently, Mobile is the home of mardi gras!) There were lots of beads being thrown, but
their parades are very family friendly, and actually consisted of a lot of fun
toys and MOON PIES being thrown. Our
hotel was right on the parade path, so we watched one from our suite, and the
other two from the street. Their floats

The rest of Mobile was great too – great food, amazing ice
cream, cute shops – the works. We
enjoyed walking the streets and exploring.

For part two (or should I say, deaux?), we went to New
Orleans. We found a great deal and ended
up staying at the Ritz (who doesn’t
want to say that at least once in their life??) which was in walking distance
to some great restaurants, amazing shops, and of course, the French Quarter.

We ate at Mothers, Acme, and of course, Café du Monde for some
beignets! Babymoons are supposed to be
all about the food, right?!

I loved walking up and down the streets and window shopping
– such cool artwork there! We stopped in
several little shops, and ended up picking up a cute wall hook for baby girl’s
room that would match her nursery, and some creole spices for Colin.
It was so nice to get away and have a leisurely paced trip
since we are always on the go it seems.
We had lots of time to talk about baby girl and all the fun adventures
we plan to take her on. I think we even
settled on a name!
