Colin and I kicked off the summer with a trip to Chicago and Minneapolis over Memorial Day weekend. For those of you that do not know, Colin wants to go to a game in each of the Major League Baseball stadiums.
Colin has been to Chicago for work before, but this was my first trip. I counted on him to show me the highlights of the city, and he did! We got there late after work on Thursday, so we had all day Friday and part of Saturday to explore. We headed to Millennium Park first to see Cloud Gate or "the bean." This was a beautiful park in the middle of the city.
We made our way through the park and over to Navy Pier where we did a little light shopping, and rode the Ferris Wheel! We got a great view of the city.
We made our way over to one of the best pizza places in town, Lou Malnati's, for some deep-dish Chicago-style pizza!
We walked around to see more of the city before heading to a Chicago White Sox game. (Colin has been to a Chicago Cubs game already.)
The next day, we saw Buckingham Fountain and Daley Plaza before catching our flight to Minneapolis! They even had a special service and parade to honor the military in Daley Plaza that we got to see them kick off.
We arrived in Minneapolis, checked into our hotel, and immediately headed to THE Mall of America!! It was huge, and Colin immediately tried to talk me out of walking the whole thing. I told him we would do it in multiple trips - and we did! We shopped around and saw LEGO land and the roller coasters before making our way to Bubba Gump Shrimp for dinner!
The next day, we hung around downtown Minneapolis and went to the afternoon Minnesota Twins game at Target Field. It was a beautiful field, and I was grateful that we had seats in the shade and there was a nice breeze.
Our last day, we finished our tour of THE Mall, and then visited the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture. We finished up our trip at The 5-8 Club, and ate a "Juicy Lucy" - a hamburger with the cheese cooked inside of it! We ordered shoe-string onions as our side - and had enough to feed our entire section!!
We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
